Vinicunca, or as it’s more commonly known Rainbow Mountain, is a 5,200 meter-high peak in the heart of Peru’s Southern Andes, just over 60 miles from the picturesque city of Cusco.
The result of long-term weathering and mineralogy, the mountain’s rainbow shades were only discovered in the last decade as rising temperatures (caused by global warming), melted the formally permanent layer of snow which covered its surface, to reveal the kaleidoscopic layers of rock beneath!
The driest period between June and September is the best time to visit.
